Walk with Police around Lake Phalen

April 22nd, 2009

Another attack on Lake Phalen in St. Paul

April 3rd, 2009

For the third time in month, a person was attacked in the Lake Phalen area of St. Paul. This time, it was a 23 year old woman jogger, according a story on KARE-11 TV.

It’s sad that some person or persons are intent on targeting people in this area and making them feel vulnerable. Most of these cases have not involved robbery attempts, just criminal assault. I don’t know whether these criminals are frustrated about the economy and have turned to taking their frustrations out on innocent victims, but I do know that is has to stop!

I would love to see one of these criminals run into someone carrying pepper spray or a Taser and getting a taste of their own medicine.

ANYONE can be a CRIMINAL.

March 5th, 2009

I just saw this story on the local news tonight about a man who had stolen a car. This thief was so proud of himself that he actually called 911 and reported that he had stolen a car and, since he was much smarter than the police, they would never catch him!

Well, he was wrong. The police arrived at his residence the next day and arrested him. You see, the police have this new fangled device called “caller ID”. It lets them see exactly who is calling them and provides the callers phone number, etc. This feature is very useful for determining who called them in case the caller gets disconnected at some point during the phone call. People that need help, or are reporting to authorities that someone else needs help, can get disconnected for various reasons like passing out, trying to escape a dangerous situation like a criminal chasing them, etc.

It turns out that caller ID also comes in real handy when the authorites are trying to locate a REALLY STUPID CRIMINAL!

Maybe it’s just me, but it sure seems like there is a lot more crime these days. I think that when times get tough, Americans naturally do whatever they can to survive. Most of us with an education and some work experience have options regarding what type of work we will accept even in the current dismal state of the economy.

If you’re young and stupid, you probably don’t have many (or any) sources of income to turn to. Unfortunetly, it seems like there are more people turning to crime these days as a way to support themselves. The crime industry is an equal idiot employment opportunity. There are no resumes needed, no job interviews to go on, no sending your resume off into some black box and just praying that SOMEONE will eventually invite you to meet for an interview.

Can you imagine some armed robber holding up a gas station and the clerk behind the window asking the robber “Is this your first robbery attempt? Because you act like you don’t have much experience at this sort of thing. How many robbery’s have you successfully pulled off in the past? Have you actually ever shot a person? I’m sorry, but I really don’t think you’re qualified to pull off this robbery. I think it’s best if you just leave because we would like to pursue some other, more qualifed robbers. If you will just leave a business card, we’ll add your information to our database of other criminals and follow up with you if we have a need for your services within the next 12 months.”

What is YOUR life worth?

March 1st, 2009

I just registered my new TASER C2 with TASER International and was thinking I made a pretty good investment in the safety of myself and my family. Let me explain how valuable this device is, in case you’re not familiar the TASER C2.

c2 blue2

The TASER C2 is a self-defense electronic control device Manufactured by TASER International, the same company that manufactures TASERs used by Law Enforcement personnel all over the world. The TASER C2 is just as effective as the TASER used by Law Enforcement, plus it has some smart additional features which make it perfect for any ordinary citizen to use.

The TASER C2 uses a replaceable cartridge containing compressed nitrogen to deploy to the small probes that are attached to the TASER C2 by insulated conductive wires with a maximum length of 15 feet. The TASER C2 transmits electrical pulses along the wires and into the body of affecting the sensory and motor functions of the peripheral nervous system. The energy can penetrate up to 2 inches of clothing, or 1 inch per probe.

How does a TASER work?
The human nervous system communicates with simple electrical impulses. The command center (brain and spinal cord) processes information and makes decisions. The peripheral nervous system includes the sensory and motor nerves. The sensory nerves carry information from the body to the brain (temperature, touch, etc.) the motor nerves carry commands from the brain to the muscles to control movement and can be involuntary in response to the sensory information. An example would be involuntary muscle reaction to pull the hand away from a hot object.

TASER technology uses similar electrical pulses to costs stimulation that affects the century and motor nerves. No muscular incapacitation (NMI) occurs when a device is able to cause involuntary stimulation of both the sensory nerves and the motor nerves. It is not dependent on pain and is effective on subjects with a high level of pain tolerance.

Previous generations of stun guns could primarily affect the Senator nerves only, resulting in pain compliance. A person with a very high tolerance pain (e.g., a drug abuser or a trained, focused fighter) might be able to fight through the pain of a traditional stun gun.

Electricity must be able to flow between the probes of the electrodes.

Electricity generally follows the path of least resistance between the probes. The greater the spread between the probes on the target, generally the greater the NMI effectiveness.

Electricity will generally not pass to others in contact with the subject unless contact is made directly between or on the probes.

Electricity can arc through clothing.

Exposure to water will not cause electrocution to increase the power to the subject (electrical charge is fixed inside the TASER device, and will not increase significantly even with environmental changes).

TASER technology uses similar electrical pulses to cause stimulation that affects the sensory and motor nerves. Neromuscular Incapacitation (NMI) occurs when a device is able to cause an involuntary stimulation of both the sensory nerves and the motor nerves. It is not dependent on pain and is effective on subjects of the high level of pain tolerance.

SPECIAL FEATURES TO PREVENT MISUSE
Every time a TASER C2 cartridge is deployed, at least 24 small, confetti -like AFID tags are ejected. Each AFID is printed with the serial number of the cartridge deployed, allowing law enforcement agencies to determine the registered owner of the cartridge and track citizen use if ever used in a criminal act.

You are required to complete a criminal background check in order to receive a unique code that will be used to activate your TASER C2. This means that when a TASER C2 has been fired, it will be much easier for the police to track down the registered owner of the device.

The TASER C2, with laser guided targeting, costs $350. It costs another $10 to register your unit with TASER. This is a one-time fee.

The TASER C2 is certainly not the cheapest self defense device available, but I feel this is the most effective, non-lethal self defense device currently on the market and well worth the investment in the safety of myself and my family.

Pay to Pee?

February 28th, 2009

I read a news story today that is really disturbing. An airline is considering charging customers to use their bathroom while in flight. Apparently the airlines feel that they are losing so much money that they have no choice but to charge the CUSTOMERS more for their services so they can increase revenue enough to, hopefully, become profitable again.

This is a very bad idea. I really doubt that 20 years from now we’ll be looking back and saying “Yes, that decision to charge customers to use the bathroom is what saved the airline industry from ruin.”

Instead of trying to increase revenues by charging customers to use the bathroom, airlines should be looking for ways to reduce expenses.

One expense category that is ripe for reductions is executive compensation. In fact, you could even say that executive compensation is an expense categoy that is beyond ripe, it just plain stinks!

Corporate executives have been ripping off Americans, their employees, shareholders and customers for far too long and it’s time for this trend to reverse.

You can protect yourself from being raped by corporate executives by investing in some pepper spray. You can get your’s here:

I have to run along now and go take pee while I can still do it for free.

You SAY you WANT a REVOLUTION?

February 21st, 2009

Another week, another disappointing stock market. But, cheer up! I think some long overdue change is on it’s way. And remember, there’s more to life than just money. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, “This too, shall pass.”

We don’t have to look too far to see the signs of outrageous greed that ran rampant during the last stock market bull cycle. Here are just some of the highlights from the last week of media reports that exhibit the excessive greediness of corporate executives:

  • The Trustee in the Bernard Madoff bankruptcy case reported that the financier hadn’t bought any securities for the past 13 years!

  • The SEC filed fraud charges against Texas billionaire Allen Stanford and two other executives of Stanford Group of selling $8 billion in high-yield certificates of deposit with impossibly high interest rates in a worldwide scheme.

  • GM CEO Rick Wagoner was quoted at a press conference stating: “We have to restructure…so we can be viable at a sales level that is dramatically lower than what we ever anticipated.” Huh? You mean GM Executives never considered what would happen if oil prices increased from historically low levels and what impact that would have on their dominant market share position and sales of gas guzzling SUV’s and trucks? Were they too busy working on their golf game to bother with such small details?

  • Speaking of General Motors, GM and Chrysler told the U.S. Congress that they could need $21.6 billion more in aid to keep them going. GM said it could need $100 billion in financing if it filed for bankruptcy, and CEO Rick Wagner said bankruptcy would be “risky” and would only be used as a last resort. I wonder what Wagner really means when he says that a GM bankruptcy would be “risky”? Risky for him, personally, and his future salary and earnings prospect perhaps?

  • UBS agreed to pay $780 million and identify some American clients with undeclared bank accounts, to settle a tax case and avert criminal charges. But Switzerland’s finance minister vowed that the country’s bank secrecy would be maintained.

But, as Bob Dylan would say, “The times, they are a changing.” Yes, the Federal Goverment is throwing an awful lot of money at our financial markets to try and stop the decline in our financial markets and restore some resembelance of confidence again. As inflationary as the long-term effects of this loose money policy will be, they really don’t have a choice if they have any hope of preventing the global economy from falling into a long, deep and severe depression.

Critics of President Obama’s new housing rescue plan say they don’t want to pay for their neighbor’s mortgage in the form of higher taxes. Well, I don’t think anyone is happy about paying higher taxes, but what choice do we really have? The economy is messed up, big time. We can’t blame President Obama for this because things were already messed up by the time he was elected into office. He could complain about the crappy job that he inherited from the outgoing administration, but he’s not. He’s doing everything that he can to try and stop the bleeding and prevent any further damage from occuring.

Now, to get back to the headline of this long-winded blog post, It was clear from the November 2008 U.S. Presidential results that Americans wanted change. Not just a little tweak, but a major change. Well, change IS coming. It has to, or else we are all dead. Not just the US economy, but the global economy. How can you imagine that a person as insane as Adolph Hitler became so powerful? Germany was weak from the last major recession and people were starving and desperate for change. These people were so desperate that they decided that while Hitler had some radical ideas, nothing else had worked so far. They HAD to DO SOMETHING! So they put this guy named Hitler with some crazy ideas into power to see if that might fix things. And the rest is history, as they say.

Please don’t misunderstand and think that I’m comparing President Obama to Adolph Hitler, because that is NOT WHAT I’M DOING. American’s are smart enough to learn from the past mistakes of others and I think Obama is exactly what America needs right now to get us out of this financial mess without creating more problems down the road.

Just to be safe, you might want to pick up a C2 TASER in case their’s an uprising in your neigborhood…

A Taser is simply a less lethal alternative to a hand gun. Afterall, you just want to stop your neighbor from attacking you and stealing your stuff. You don’t want to actually KILL HIM, right?

The Differences between Taser and Stun Guns

February 19th, 2009

Did you know that there is actually a difference between taser guns and stun guns? Many people don’t know the differences and it is assumed that they are both the same thing. However, while they may both give out electric shocks, there are some differences that you should be aware of. Knowing these differences will help you to choose the best self defense product to suit your needs.

c2 blue2

RUNT-950R

Stun Guns and Taser Guns - The Differences

There are a few differences between stun guns and taser guns that you should be aware of before you choose either of them. They can potentially make a big difference into how safe you are while you are using the products and so it is important to understand the differences and how they affect you.

Taser guns are typically more high tech than stun guns. They work when you are up to fifteen feet away from your attacker. Two probes are sent from the taser gun to the attacker and they become stuck while they emit a seven second initial shock. They require both probes to be attached to the attacker before they will work properly. A stun gun on the other hand needs close contact before it will be effective. It does not have probes but it has a very loud sound that often frightens attackers off before they have had a chance to hurt you.

Taser guns will temporarily paralyze your attacker. They will likely fall down to the ground and they will lose control over their limbs for a short period of time. A stun gun is merely there to give a short shock. It will not paralyze the attacker as long as a taser gun would and it is not as powerful usually as a taser gun either. However, that does not mean to say that a stun gun is not as effective as a taser gun - it can be and it costs a lot less than a taser gun too.

Taser guns can be expensive because they are so effective. They are also bigger than stun guns too. With stun guns you can purchase ones which are designed to fool the attacker. Cell phone stun guns and keychain stun guns are particular popular as they are easy to carry around and they are not obvious like taser guns can be. They would be ideal for anybody who does not want to look like they have a self defense weapon.

Typically taser guns are more effective but stun guns can also be extremely effective too. The noise of the stun gun tends to be enough to scare away many attackers. Then the short shock that is given also causes attackers to think twice about staying and continuing the attack. This is especially the case with cell phone stun guns as the attacker does not expect anything and the shock usually causes them to run away. However some attackers may not be put off by s short shock and that is where taser guns come in. They paralyze the attacker so that they do not have a chance to continue the attack and that leaves you with plenty of time to escape.

Overall both taser guns and stun guns are effective and both can protect you against an attack. However, you should always understand the differences between the two; especially the distances required for them to be effective!

How Safety Lights can Protect you in Today’s World

February 18th, 2009

When you think of self defense products you typically think about pepper spray, stun guns or personal security alarms. However, there is another effective form of self defense that is not usually considered and that is a safety light.

How Safety Lights May Help

Safety lights are designed to light up the way when you are out walking on a dark night. Not only do they help you to see better, but they also enable you to draw attention to yourself. This may seem like a bad idea; after all, who wants to draw attention to themselves at night when there are potential attackers out there? Surely the attacker will see you and find it easier to attack you? Well surprisingly drawing attention to yourself does not increase the risk of you being attacked, instead it prevents it.
By drawing attention to yourself with a safety light it enables other people to see you. So if you are attacked there is a better chance that somebody will witness what is happening. Help can then be called and your attacker will be scared off. So that is one way in which a safety light can protect you.

By lighting up the way a safety light will also help you to see potential attackers. Often when you are walking late at night it is difficult to see what is in front of you. That is why so many people are attacked because their attacker can see them, but they did not see their attacker until it was too late. By seeing where you are going you will be able to assess the possible risks ahead and that can potentially stop you from being attacked.

Choosing a Good Safety Light

There are different lights that you can purchase but typically the best types to get are the LED versions. You can also choose between flashing lights and simple constant lights. If you use a flashing light that does help to draw attention to you when you are being attacked. A constant light is better to help you to see where you are going. For best results it would be a good idea to purchase a LED light that has the ability to flash but which also has a constant light on it too.

If you want a light which is convenient to carry then you should choose the Cell Phone flash light. This is designed to peel and stick to your cell phone and it can easily be operated whenever it is needed. It lasts for up to 6,000 hours and you can use it literally everywhere. It is small enough to easily carry around and use outside and generally it is one of the best lights available.

If you just want the simplest of safety lights then the LED light is what you need. It comes with seven different flashing patterns and you can choose from three different styles. There is a wrist strap, a bicycle light and a belt clip. It has a very powerful light and the seven different flashing functions will help you to signal help if it is needed.

Overall safety lights may not be able to directly stop an attack, but they can help to prevent them. It would be a good idea to carry around another self defense product such as pepper spray if you really want to protect yourself, or even just a personal safety alarm to further draw attention to yourself in the event of an attack. You can even purchase combined safety alarms and lights and that may be the best option for you.

As Crime Increases and the Economy Falls-How Will You Defend Yourself?

February 11th, 2009

How do you feel about the economy in today’s world? We are reading in almost every country, that crime is on the rise due to the problems in the workforce and the fall in the economy. So how will you defend yourself? Recent headlines are reading more and more of bank robberies, home invasions, car vandalism and thefts, purse snatchings, and other criminal behavior. With millions of people out of work, it is no wonder.

Crime analysts have always had different opinions about economic downturns leading to increasing crime rates. However, since the most recent fall on Wall Street, law enforcement agencies worldwide have seen notable increases in violence and property offenses as signs it is related to the economy. Cities around world are reporting robberies in unprecedented numbers compared to recent years, or even decades. Many of the target victims are retail stores which have never seen crimes such as these. Those would include grocery and clothing stores, banks, and even restaurant suppliers. Thefts of cars have jumped nationwide by 164% from last year, and vandalism leading to theft has more than doubled. Most law enforcement officers say it has been in direct correlation to the economy falling.

In October 2008, a survey of 180 law enforcement agencies by the Police Executive Research Forum in Washington, D.C., found that 75% cited the recent rise in crime was related to property crime.

The idea that the crime rate picks up when the economy tanks makes a lot of sense, intuitively. The unemployment rate increases during a recession and some of these newly unemployed people with marginal employment skills will likely turn to crime to support themselves and cover their cost of living.

The FBI states that the most vulnerable portion of the population, are young adults, many of whom have already been in some type of trouble with police, and who were trying to move into the workforce. They can’t find a job to keep them from returning to previously committed lives of crime. The Center for Crime Prevention and Control says the demand for illegal drugs is also being driven to more crime as the economy falls. Major surges in crime, are at their highest since the 1990’s. The sale of illicit drugs is the only way many criminals can find a way to afford the drugs to sell to those who illegally do them.

The combination of declining resources and increases in many offenses may be representing only the first wave of the bad news. Because desperate people do desperate things to stay afloat, there are thousands who are giving away pets because they can’t afford to feed them. Where once there was a dog to bark away an intruder, there is now nothing to deter a thief. People without an income certainly can’t spend upwards of $100 per month to install and run home security systems. Many have turned to the one time purchase of home alarms that do not require monthly service fees.

Many cities saw a dramatic decrease in crime over 2007 and 2008 due to more police patrols. However, 62% of US police departments are now having to cut their forces and cutting overtime spending completely.

Among cities reporting increases in crimes, almost all account this to the sagging economy. Atlanta Police blames the economy for increases of 14% in burglary, and 17% in auto theft. Instead of stealing jewelry and other valuables, burglars are taking flat-screen TVs and computers which can be resold as there is more demand. Thieves are even stealing license plates for the renewal stickers in order to find relief from paying taxes on their vehicles.

The safety of all citizens must be our first priority; the second is the protection of their property. We are doing our part by raising your awareness to methods of protection.

5 Martial Arts Techniques For Self Defense

February 9th, 2009

Every well prepared person will have at least 1 firearm or Ka-Bar knife for their first line of self defense. I am an American who enjoys my first amendment rights, and I hold the safety of myself and my family at the highest regard. However, there are times where you get caught in a situation without these self defense measures.

I learned very early on that perfect compliments to self defense weapons like firearms and Ka-Bar knives are proper martial arts self defense techniques. You do not have to be a black belt or a veteran martial arts practicioner to be able to know these simple, yet effective tactics. These are 5 martial arts, self defense techniques that everyone should know.

Palm Heel Attack
You’ve heard of this technique before, and it is not urban legend. Striking an attacker in the nose with an upward stroke will stop any attack. The beauty of this technique is twofold. The heel of your hand is very durable and will not fracture as easily as your knuckles and the top of your hand. Also, an accurate strike to an attacker’s nasal region will not only break his or her nose, but it will cause their eyes to water, thus blinding them.

Front Kick To Knee
A planted leg is an ideal target to inflict damage. Anyone who has suffered ligament or cartilage tears in their knee will tell you this. If an attacker is in close proximity and doesn’t have a firearm, a downward front kick to the kneecap will render them motionless. This strike will force the knee to hyperextend and the attacker won’t be able to put any kind of pressure on it.

Groin Kick Or Knee
There’s no such thing as “dirty fighting” when being attacked. When there is a male attacker threatening your life, you have to pull out all stops. The groin area is very tender and soft, making it succeptable to damage. Either use a front soccer-style kick right between the legs or a knee if in close proximity. More often than not, this will give you enough room to make a getaway.

High Block
Not all self-defense techniques are offensive, hence the name. A proper high block is essential to avoid punches, stabs and blunt force trauma for an instrument wielded by an attacker. Proper technique calls for a wall between yourself and an attacker/attacker’s instrument. A high block gives you the room and time for a well placed groin kick or front knee.

Back Kick Strike
The back kick strike is perfect for middle to long range. By spinning around, it puts you in the position to run away. When you extend your foot backwards, it creates even more distance. If you are accurate with this strike, it could do severe damage to your attacker’s internal organs and knock the wind out of him or her. If you slightly miss and only get a piece of the attacker’s abdomen, you still have enough space to make a getaway.

Rechargeable Stun Guns - Convenient Protection for the Whole Family

February 8th, 2009

Stun guns can be fantastic self defense weapons but there are a couple of disadvantages that you should be aware of. The main one is the fact that the battery life is often quite short and that can be potentially expensive in the long run. Even if you carry around replacement batteries, what would you do if those batteries failed as you were about to be attacked?

RUNT-950R

These days it is incredibly important to be on your guard against an attacker. You and your family could be at risk and so it is vital that you are prepared in some way for the possibility of an attack. Stun guns are ideal for self defense, but you need them to be reliable and you cannot always guarantee that when they run on batteries. However, there is a stun gun that you can rely on at all times and that is the rechargeable stun gun.

Understanding Rechargeable Stun Guns

Rechargeable stun guns come with a built in charger that works when you plug it in. It eliminates the need for replacement batteries and it gives you that added peace of mind that you will always be protected when you need to be. Just as long as you charge them up you will be able to benefit from stun gun protection at all times.

It can often be difficult to know when batteries are running out in stun guns. How can you tell if they need replacing or if they will last you for another good few months? You can’t and so that can be a little risky in today’s society. Your attacker isn’t going to wait for you to check your stun gun’s batteries. If you go to use it and it fails, you could end up with your life being changed forever. So why risk it when you don’t have to? Rechargeable stun guns will help you to protect yourself and your family at all times.

If you are looking for a convenient rechargeable stun gun then why not choose the Runt Stun Gun? It is a mini stun gun that is completely rechargeable and it is ultra easy to carry around. You could hold it in your hand without your attacker noticing it. It may be small but it delivers up to 950,000 volts! You have the choice of three different voltage strengths with this stun gun too. You can purchase 350,000, 650,000 or 950,000 volts. It all depends upon your personal preference. Typically the more volts the gun has, the nastier the shock will be for the attacker.
You will find that the sound that the stun guns make will scare away the attacker usually anyway without an electric shock being needed. However for tougher attackers the electrical shock will stop them in their tracks.

Overall stun guns can be extremely effective but they can run out of batteries at the worst possible times. In order to protect yourself and your family why take the risk of the batteries failing on you when you need them? Choose a rechargeable stun gun like the runt stun gun and you can guarantee your safety at all times.

Do Self Defense Products Really Make a Difference?

Do Self Defense Products Really Make a Difference?

Are you considering whether self defense products are worthwhile? Have you been told that you could benefit from self defense products but you are skeptical about how they work? If so then read on to find out whether self defense weapons are a good choice for you.

taserc2blackpearl2

The Purpose of Self Defense Products

Self defense products are designed to protect you in the event of an attack. It could be a thief who is desperate for money, or it could be a rapist who is looking to attack young women, whoever they are they will not think twice about attacking you. It is worth noting that most attacks do happen to women and the elderly. However, there are instances where men will get attacked too. So no matter whom you are, self defense products could help you.

80145

You will find that there are a number of different self defense products available to purchase and each are designed to do a specific job. The products you can typically purchase include:

  • Pepper/Mace Spray
  • Personal Security Alarms
  • Safety Lights
  • Stun/Taser Guns
  • Instructional DVD’s

All of the above can help you in a different way when it comes to protecting yourself in the street. You need to assess your needs before you can choose the best self defense products for you.
Which Self Defense Products should you choose?

WF-18SMBLK

Think about how often you go out alone. Do you go out alone at night or mainly during the day? Is your area well known for crime or is it a more up market location? These things will make a difference in which products you should choose.

If crime is not really an issue in your area then you may want to consider simple self defense product such as a safety light and alarm. It can easily be carried around in your purse or bag and you can purchase combined lights and alarms that are ideal for walking around alone late at night. Obviously if you do not go out at night then you can simply use a personal safety alarm on its own. Alarms will alert people to the situation and it usually successfully scares off attackers.

If crime is more common in your area then it would be better to carry a more protective product such as pepper spray or a stun gun. These will temporarily stop an attacker and give you a good chance of getting away and getting the help that you need. There are laws that you have to follow before you can use these types of self defense weapons however so ensure that you read up on correct self defense product use before you use them.

Finally if you want to protect yourself in the event of an attack then instructional DVDs may be exactly what you need. They teach you everything you need to know about disarming attackers and fighting back when needed. By watching instructional DVDs you will learn about how to protect yourself and gain fighting skills that you would otherwise lack.

Overall self defense products can really help you to protect yourself in the event of an attack. Not only will they help to protect you, but they can also potentially prevent an attack too. You may not like to think about the potential dangers out there but if you don’t then you could live to regret it. If you have to walk alone, especially at night then it is worth taking precautions to protect yourself. By choosing the right products you will successfully be able to fight back and stop an attacker from ruining your life.

Protect yourself in the Street with Instructional DVD’s

December 18th, 2008

If you are looking for a self defense product with a difference then why not try out instructional combat DVD’s? Designed to teach you how to fight back if needed, instructional DVD’s can be extremely effective at preventing attacks and theft in the street.

DVD-SAFE

How are Instructional DVD’s Helpful?

Many people do not even consider instructional DVD’s because they feel that they will be a waste of time. Preferring instead to attend actual classes, people do often think that DVD’s are a waste of time. However, what if you don’t have the time to attend a martial arts class?

DVD-BODYGUARD

Instructional DVD’s give you the convenience of teaching you self defense techniques within your own home. You can learn at your own time and you will learn everything you need to know about protecting yourself while you are out and about in the street.

DVD-CAMP

Another advantage to instructional DVDs is that you can learn more than one type of self defense. There is a wide range of techniques to choose from including:

  • American Combat Karate
  • Unarmed Combat Course
  • Secrets of Gun, Knife Disarmament
  • Advanced Combative Tactics

Out of the above the Secrets of Gun, Knife Disarmament is probably one of the most informative DVDs that you can purchase for self defense. Gun and knife crime is common in many areas throughout America. When you are attacked with a knife or a gun it can be potentially fatal and often people just do not know how to protect themselves against such weapons. With this DVD you will learn how to disarm an attacker who comes at you with a gun or a knife and that will obviously help you to protect yourself in the street. Unique Diversion Safes to Keep Your Valuables Safe

November 16th, 2008

We all have valuables that we would like to keep safely at home without fear of losing them or having them burglarized. Aunt Edna’s ring or necklace that has been in the family for years. Some coins that have been passed down to you that you would like to pass on to your children or grandchildren.

Some people use a safe deposit box, but find these inconvenient. If you decide to wear one of the pieces of jewelry on Saturday night but don’t get to the bank on time, no safe deposit bank and no jewelry for tonight.

However, if you have some pieces of jewelry, coins, mad money and other things that are valuable to you, such as I do, it all may not have a lot of monetary value, but the sentimental value is incredible.

One way to keep these valuables and sentimental items safe is with an unusual and unique Diversion Safe. Since a burglar usually is in and out of your house in under 10 minutes, they are not taking their time wander around. They are looking for anything of value they can grab and get out.

If you have a safe that looks like a soda can, a fruit cocktail can, Scotch Guard, Pnut butter or other daily products, especially if kept in your cabinet where they would normally be, a burglar isn’t going to even notice them, and your valuables will remain safe.

If you are looking for a way to keep your valuables safe and at home, get a Diversion Safe today.

Pepper Foam Sticks and Doesn’t Let Go

November 15th, 2008

Wherever you live and wherever you are you are probably safe most of the time. The problem is that every once in a while bad things happen to good people in quiet, decent neighborhoods, in big cities, small towns, cities and suburbs.

Though this is not an every day occurrence, even once can be too much. Too often, we hear that someone has been mugged or worse in a random attack.

Fortunately, there are self-defense tools that are available and some of them are strong and will eliminate attackers and keep you safe without being fatal.

Many people are looking for the best self defense tools available. Pepper spray is considered a powerful self-defense tool, but there is something even stronger and that is Pepper Foam.

Pepper Foam is made from the same basic ingredient as pepper spray, however because it is in foam form it not only makes your potential attacker’s eyes completely slam shut and their skin start burning. As the attacker tries to rub the foam off, the problem becomes that the foam gets further into the skin and burns more. While the attacker is busy dealing with that and coughing constantly, you now have time to get away to safety and get help or call the police.

If you are looking for protection that you can keep with you to help you stay safe, Mace Pepper Foam is the one to choose.

Tasers May become Legal in Michigan

November 13th, 2008

The use of tasers by private citizens has become an issue throughout the United States and other countries. More and more lawmakers are pushing for tasers as a non-lethal but effective alternative for self defense. The following is a reprint from a news story on WLNS TV 6 Lancing Jackson Michigan News and Weather.

Rep. Rick Jones Pushes for Use of Tasers

A local lawmaker went to great lengths to support his legislation. State Representative Rick Jones is the sponsor of a bill to allow Michigan citizens to carry tasers. He was willing to take a hit to prove his point. It began as any other day in the Michigan legislature with a committee hearing testimony on house bill 5755.

Rep. Joel Sheltrown, (D) West Branch: “Is there an issue that someone who was on a particular drug will not be affected by a taser?”

Sponsors of the bill to allow tasers for private use say it comes down to simple self defense.

Rep. Rick Jones, (R) Grand Ledge: “This device is completely safe, there are very few incidents across the nation where there was a death.”

But Representative Rick Jones didn’t stop there, Jones was tasered for five seconds, not exactly a pleasant experience, but one he says was worthwhile.

Rep. Rick Jones: “I am more convinced than ever that this is a device that should be available to every citizen in Michigan to protect themselves from a violent criminal, a rapist, a murderer. This is something that will make Michigan safer.”

If nothing else, it certainly gave a jolt to a typical day in the house. Proponents of tasers say they’re an alternative to deadly force, but critics insist they can still be dangerous. Despite the demonstration, Michigan’s taser bill remains in committee and is not expected to go before the full house until sometime next year.

Pretender Cell Phone Gives a Real Jolt

November 12th, 2008

We are hearing about more and more personal attacks these days, and they are taking place in areas that used to be quiet neighborhood that were free of crime. We used to hear about the big city issues with crime and folks in the suburbs and quiet, “bedroom” communities seemed immune to robberies and personal attacks.

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. The good news is that along with the rise in crime there have been major advances in self defense and protection, especially when it comes to various tools that you can keep with you and that you are able to use discreetly without an attacker even realize you are about to let him/her have it.

One of the most innovative tools available today is the Pretender Cell Phone. This clever phone is not really a phone, but looks like the real thing. What it does, however, is contain a stun gun that sends high voltage into an attacker, immobilizing the attacker and leaving you free to run away while the attacker is trying to get their bearings and move.

The Pretender Cell Phone has 950,000 volts of power that will stop your attacker from being able to attack. At the same time, it looks like a simple cell phone with a camera in it, so the attacker never even realizes that you are arming yourself.

The Pretender Cell Phone is one of the best and most reliable self defense tools available today. If you are looking for the best self defense tool, the Pretender Cell Phone is the one to do the job and keep you safe.

The Difference between Mace and Pepper Spray

November 11th, 2008

If you are looking for a good self defense product then mace and pepper spray will likely be something that you have considered. However, what you may not realize is that mace spray is different to pepper spray and you need to be aware of these differences before you purchase either of them.

Understanding the Differences
The main reason why you need to know the differences between the two sprays is because they work differently to each other. They both are designed to be sprayed into your attackers face, but they will have different effects and they will need to be treated differently too.

Pepper spray tends to be less painful than mace spray. This is because the ingredients within it are taken from hot peppers and they are mixed with an oily substance to make it cling to the skin. The hot pepper liquid irritates the skin and causes discomfort as well as difficulty with breathing. The symptoms that it causes are practically the same as mace spray but it is slightly milder than mace spray tends to be.

Mace spray contains CN tear gas and it is extremely painful to the eyes. It is an aerosol that has inflammatory and irritant properties. As with pepper spray the mace is designed to stick to the skin and that causes the attacker to suffer ongoing pain. If the substance dries and then the area becomes wet again, it is likely that it will set off the effects of the gas again and ongoing agony will start. Pepper spray on the other hand dissipates over a short period of time and it is easier to remove than mace spray.

Due to the power of mace spray, in some states you are required to take a course in how to use the spray before you purchase it. This stops it from being misused and it will also prevent you from getting into a lot of trouble. If you do use the spray incorrectly then your attacker could potentially sue you for the pain caused. Obviously you do not want that to happen so it is always safer to take a course and use the spray correctly! You do not usually need any training to use pepper spray because it is not as harmful as mace. For that reason it might be a more convenient alternative for many people.

Typically mace is more effective than pepper spray, but owning pepper spray will still enable you to protect yourself. An attacker will always think twice after you have sprayed them with pepper spray as it still really irritates the eyes and the skin. Only a very determined attacker will be able to get passed the effects of the spray. So it would be a good idea to run as soon as you have sprayed the person. That way you have the best chance of escaping.

Overall both mace and pepper spray are extremely effective in stopping an attacker. They work in the same way but their ingredients are the main thing that differs. Mace spray is much more powerful than pepper spray but that can make it more complicated to carry and to use. Always check your state laws to see that you can purchase mace in your local area. If you can’t then pepper spray would be a great alternative and it can be just as effective at stopping an attack as mace spray too.
