With the crime rate taking a toll on the society, very little has been left to the victim’s hand as far as defense is concerned. It is the utter helplessness of the victim that puts the criminals at an advantage. Even though numerous self defense gadgets are available in market these days, a handy, smart and useful gadget always serves as the most apt aid. Cell phone stun guns are one such defense tool that comes to the rescue of a victim in a helpless situation.
Cell phone stun guns are the latest tool in masked self defense. Cell phones are a common gadget carried by almost everyone these days and hence to many, the dual role of the cell phone as the high effective non-lethal self-defense will remain beyond comprehension.
A cell phone stun gun works very effectively. As one presses the end of the stun device pointing towards the teaser or criminal and presses the trigger it dumps the electrical charge into the person’s body and exercises their muscle group vigorously. The longer one holds it on the person, the more effective the shock effect is. Hence a couple of seconds of holding can take a toll on the criminal.
The best part of the usage of cell phone stun gun is that the user will not feel any shock back even if he or she is touching the person or if they are holding on to the victim. The stun effect is actually localized to the place where the user is holding in on the person.
The cell phone stun gun can be as powerful worth 950,000 volts and may also include a flashlight. The flashlight comes as a help when some one needs to light up his or her door while unlocking it. The cell phone stun gun is thus can be used as a unique self defense tool if an attacker tries to hurt some one.
It is here where http://www.laneselfdefense.com serves as an aid. The website brings to table all the useful tools of self defense which comes to your rescue when you need them the most. This power packed tool of self defense takes down an attacker facilitating the victim’s escape.
The self defense cell phone stun gun comes in various designs and colors. They are handy and can be good looking also. Cell phone stun guns can be categorized in to many types. Namely
Camera phone Pretender stun gun: At 950,000 volts, this is one of the high voltage stun guns which are available. Test firing this is enough to stop an attacker. Using it leads the bright electric current to pulsate across the top of the unit creating an intimidating electrical sound.
Stun Master: The Stun Master 800,000 volt Cell Phone Stun Gun is quite simple to use. It can be turned off safety and is touch assailant.
Firestorm: This is one of the most realistic approaches in addressing a potential danger and thus escaping from it.
Be it a crowded place or a lone ally , you will no more feel insecure with this cell phone stun gun in hand. With a security tool of this potential in hand, you have nothing to worry.
Stay safe to stay alive,

The following story is an excerpt from the Eagle Tribune Newspaper in New Hampshire. It was printed on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 and shows the importance and effectiveness of Pepper Spray in a home invasion or an attack.
ATKINSON — A homeowner fended off a burglar with pepper spray early Sunday morning, police said.
Officers were called to the Bryant Woods condominium complex about 1 a.m. for a home invasion, police Chief Philip Consentino said. The male intruder fled on foot before police arrived, he said.
A woman, whom police are not identifying, woke up because she heard a noise downstairs in her home. When she went to check, she found a man, Consentino said.
“She got into a confrontation with this gentleman, (he) grabbed her by the arm and punched her in the face,” Consentino said.
The woman asked the man if he wanted money and went for her purse when he said he did, Consentino said.
Instead, the homeowner grabbed a container of pepper spray.
She sprayed the intruder in the face and he ran out of the house — empty-handed, police said.
The woman told police she didn’t recognize the intruder. She described him as being between 35 and 45 years old. He was wearing a baseball cap that covered his face, she said.
Officers called in Plaistow police and its K-9 unit for assistance, Consentino said.
Because of quick thinking and her can of Pepper Spray, she is safe and the intruder was unable to steal anything.

Generally, it is a very good idea to carry 1-2 containers of Bear Spray whenever you are hiking or camping in bear country. In this unusual twist, however, Bear Spray would be ineffective in stopping the bear because the bear had a plastic container completly covering his head. The bear must have wandered into someone’s garbage, found the plastic container with yummy smells, and after he finished licking it, discovered he couldn’t remove the pastic container from his head. You see, bears do not have hands, only paws. This made it very difficult to remove the plastic container from the bear’s head. He pawed and pawed and flung his head from side to side, but to no avail. The stubborn container was not going to come off very easily.

Park rangers became increasingly worried about what the bear might do if it stumbled into a human, so they just tracked the bear to see what he was going to do next. I wouldn’t think the bear could do to much damage to any human since he was wearing a space helmet. Bears in space! Apparently, park rangers don’t typically carry tranquilizer guns with them and the nearest ranger with this type of gun lived about 3 hours away. They continued to track the bear until it came across the town of Frazee, MN where to local police officers decided to shoot and kill the Bear just in case he tried anything funny. I don’t know why someone didn’t just walk up to the bear and remove the plastic container from his head. I’m sure he would have really appreciated that and the bear and the person could go on an live a wonderful life together…like Grizzy Adams!
Anyway, I thought this story was interesting and pointed out one of the very rare situations in which bear pepper spray would not be effective. Of course, if a bear has his head stuck inside a plastic container, he’s got way more things to worry about than attacking any person he encounters. I guess someone could die from laughing too hard and forgetting to take a breath in between laughs, but that’s about it.

FRAZEE, Minn. — A bear with a plastic jar over its head led police on a six-day chase through the forests of Hubbard and Becker counties before it was shot and killed, state wildlife officials said.
Officials had hoped to capture the wild black bear — whose head got stuck inside a 2 1/2-gallon plastic jar — but decided to shoot the animal after it wandered into the city of Frazee during the town’s busy Turkey Days celebration.
“When it got into town, our main concern was public safety,” said Rob Naplin, the Department of Natural Resources’ area wildlife supervisor in Park Rapids.
The bear was foraging for food, perhaps at a Dumpster, when its head got head stuck in the clear, plastic container. Naplin said he wasn’t sure of the container’s original contents but said it looked like a jar for bulk candy or popcorn.
While the bear could breathe, it couldn’t eat or drink and was likely suffering from dehydration and hunger. “I’m sure there was high anxiety and frustration with its predicament,” Naplin said. “It is (a sad story).”
There was no evidence the bear was baited by hunters, Naplin said. The legal baiting season doesn’t open until Aug. 15. The bear season opens Sept. 1.
The bear, with the jar on its head, was first reported near the town of Lake George on July 21.
The next day it showed up at Itasca State Park near some Dumpsters and DNR officials deployed a trap made of a steel barrel to try to catch it and remove the jar. The bear wouldn’t enter the trap, however, and was last seen Wednesday night on the park’s east side, the jar wedged on its head over one ear.
“We attempted to locate a dart gun to tranquilize it, but it left the park,” said Naplin, who estimated the bear was about 2-years-old. “It was on the move.”
The next day, the bear was spotted at a Boy Scout camp on Many Point Lake about 15 miles southwest of the park. By then, the DNR had two wildlife and four enforcement officers looking for the animal.
The bear showed up next in Frazee, where conservation officers decided it needed to be killed to avoid conflicts with humans.
By then, the jar had slipped down over both of the bear’s ears.
“You don’t want it knocking over a kid or getting hit by a car,” Naplin said. “Showing up in Frazee escalated the urgency of dispatching it.”

It is important for everyone to learn self-defense. You never know when you could become a target. It really doesn’t matter who you are or how big you are. If predators want something from you, they will stop at nothing to get it, unless you surprise them and fight back. Most criminals don’t want any conflict. If you make it hard on them, they may decide it isn’t worth it and leave you alone.
So, what self-defense tips can you put to good use? These suggestions will give you an opportunity to escape.
* Use your thumbs: If you have access to the hands of an attacker, use your thumbs to press down as hard as you can on the fingernails just above the nail bed. Surprisingly, this really hurts. Your attacker will be shocked and in pain and will quickly pull away. This should give you an escape opportunity.
* Hit hard at the bridge of the nose: If you get the opportunity, drive the heel of your palm right into the bridge of your attacker’s nose. A hard enough hit can be fatal. Either way, the blinding pain will cause your assailant to take a step back to recover from the hit. Take advantage of the distraction and run. Yell “fire!” as you run to attract attention. People generally respond and pay more attention when someone yells “fire” instead of “help.”
* Push into a bite: A vicious attacker may bite you. Avoid your instinct to pull away. Instead, push the limb being bitten into the face of your attacker. Cover as much of your attacker’s nose and mouth as possible. The result will be smothering unless the bite is released.
* Knee or kick the groin: It doesn’t matter how strong or large your attacker is. If you get a chance, deliver a strong shot to the groin. Your assailant will instantly double over in agony and allow you a good opportunity to run away. Don’t assume this will only work for a male attacker either. Anyone who is hit hard in that area will be in excruciating pain long enough for you to start running.
Now you have some good techniques that will allow you time to get away. What else can you do to help your situation? Here are some suggestions that most people don’t think of when they are panicked:
* Yell fire: For most people, when trapped in a helpless situation, the instinct is to yell for help. The best way to attract attention and gain help is actually to yell “Fire!” It is a proven fact that the majority of people, especially in densely populated cities, ignore calls for help. People just don’t want to get involved. Yelling “fire” will attract more attention and get you the help you need. If nothing else, someone will call the fire department and the sirens will scare your attacker away. If you are told not to yell or scream, do it anyway. Most attackers will run rather than chance attention drawn to them. They don’t want witnesses.
* Anything can be a weapon: Be creative in your self defense. Smokers can burn the assailant with a lit cigarette, cigar or pipe. Keep your keys handy. A key between your index and middle fingers with the jagged side facing down is a great weapon for stabbing, gouging or scraping. Boots and heels can do a lot of bodily damage with a bit of force behind them. Drinks can temporarily blind someone. Heavy objects like, purses, bags of groceries, briefcases or laptops can knock an attacker off balance briefly.
* Become a moving target: If you do get away, run. If possible, weave as you are running. It is hard for an attacker to hit a moving target, especially when it isn’t going in a straight line.
We would all like to think that it will never happen to us. Odds are, if not you then someone you love will become the victim of an attacker. Everyone needs to learn basic self-defense and encourage others to do so as well.
Stay Safe,
Steve Lane

Over the past weekend, there was a disturbing story released in the local media that an 18 year old woman was dragged into a men’s restroom in a college dormitory and raped by two men. One of the men restrained the woman while the other man raped.
The woman was visiting some friends and left their dorm room to go to the bathroom. She was gone for about 20 minutes, which her friends thought was odd…but didn’t bother to go look for her. The woman came back to the dorm room crying and told her friends what had happened.
Now, this particular incident happened in a dormatory of a very large university - The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. This exact same type of crime could really happen at any college campus - large or small.
Unfortunetly, no one is truly safe. I know, it’s a really depressing thought, but wishing that something was true doesn’t really MAKE IT true. We can standby and watch as our friends and loved ones fall victim to these types of crimes or we can do something about it.
Obviously, this woman who was raped didn’t do anything wrong and certainly didn’t deserve to be raped and attacked. What if this woman had a small canister of pepper spray on her belt that she grabbed just as she was walking to the bathroom? Would she have been able to reach for it and use it quickly enough to spray it in her attacker’s face? Maybe or maybe not.
It sure would be nice to hear a story about how a rape attack was PREVENTED by someone who was prepared for the worst, instead of hearing about another innocent victim being attacked. That’s my two cents.
Stay Safe,

Here are some tips on avoiding violent crimes. Women especially should be careful of sexual assault against them and safety products such as pepper spray, mace, stun guns and self defense training can help them in the event that they are faced with any kind if impending danger.
Make sure you use initials instead of first names on your mail box and phone listing. Avoid being alone in an apartment laundry room or parking garage. Never admit on the phone or at the door that you are alone. It is risky to accept a ride home from someone that you just met. If you decide to physically resist assault, remember that your goal is to incapacitate the attacker long enough to run to safety and get help. Or you can use your safety weapons to protect yourself.
Avoid carrying valuable items or large amounts of money. Always think ahead. For example, when traveling at night, have your keys ready to enter the house or to start the car. If you are confronted by a robber, the best advice is to cooperate at first and find an opportunity to use your peppery spray, stun gun, or mace.
When using an automatic bank teller, always be watchful of any suspicious people around you. The changes of being robbed at night are much greater, especially if you are alone. If you find someone waiting and watching outside in the area of an ATM machine, do not use it. Leave the area and report the incident to the police immediately. You could save someone else from being a victim of crime.
Stay in a well-lit area that is busy. Avoid walking alone and avoid known troubled spots. When you carry a purse, hold it close to your body rather than by the handles. Do not wrap purse straps around your wrist, because you can get hurt in a struggle.
Carry only what you need in a purse or wallet and not everything that you have. Avoid using shortcuts through dark alleys, fields or vacant lots. If you think you are being followed by a stalker, cross the street and change directions a few times. Go quickly to a well lit area where there are a lot of people. You do not want an attacker to know where you live.
You don’t want to give the robbers any clues to find you. Travel in a group of friends. It is more than likely that an attacker will rethink his or her decision to attack when you are in a group. Make sure you all have the right safety products to use if you are being attacked. Self defense techniques will be helpful to someone or all in the group.
You have to really be aware of the environment around you. Don’t ever walk without scanning your surroundings. To avoid walking in to a trap, make sure you plan your outings. Know the area before you attempt the trip. Whenever you are going out at night, try not to travel alone. Have someone in your group pick you up instead of driving by yourself, if that is possible. ATM cash machines have been incorporated in our way of life. They offer a real convenience to those on the run, but at the same time offer an element of risk. Using an ATM machine safely requires awareness and a little planning. Just because an ATM machine is open and available twenty four hours a day does not mean that it is safe to use it.
Most ATM robberies occur at night between the hours of 8PM to midnight. ATM robbers are usually males under the age of 25 years of age and most work alone. ATM robbers usually position themselves nearby waiting for a victim to approach and withdraw cash. Most ATM robbery victims are women and were alone when robbed.
Most claim that they never saw the robber coming. Most ATM robbers used a gun or claimed to have a concealed weapon when
confronting the victim and demanding cash. If you or your family members use the ATM cash machine on a regular basis, here are some tips that can make the process safer:
• Carry a stun gun, pepper spray, pepper gun, or mace spray
• Use only ATM machines that are in a well lit area with high traffic areas. Don’t use ATM machines that are remote or hidden such as being located behind a building, behind pillars, walls or away from the public view.
• Choose an ATM machine that looks and feels safer, even if it is a couple of miles out of your way. Try and limit your use to daylight hours. Take someone with you after hours, if you can. When you drive up to an ATM location, scan the area for any suspicious persons. If you see anyone suspicious standing nearby or sitting in a car, drive away. When you approach an ATM on foot be prepared and have your access card ready. Memorize your personal PIN number to prevent loss and speed the transaction. Never accept help from a suspicious male ahead of you at the machine.
• If you use your car, at a drive thru ATM machine the same rules apply. Keep the car in gear, with your foot firmly on the brake, while using the ATM machine. Keep a close eye on your rear and side view mirrors during the transaction. Robbers almost always approach from the rear on the driver’s side. If you see anyone approaching, drive off robber, just give up your money without argument.
• Avoid ATM machines adjacent to obvious hiding places
• Have your card ready and leave quickly, not counting your cash in public
• Beware of offers for help from strangers during an ATM transaction
• Don’t fight with or attempt to follow the robber
• Drive or walk to a safe place and immediately call the police
• If you are confronted by an armed robber, use your pepper spray, mace or pepper gun to defend yourself. The other option is to give the money to the robber and get out of there as quickly as possible.

Darlene wanted to purchase the Triple Action Mace that her friend Anna had told her about, but she was afraid that it would be illegal since it was a type of tear gas and came in the form of an aerosol spray. Darlene felt that she would be committing a crime instead of warding off a crime and she wanted to be in compliance with the law. Anna tried to convince Darlene that it was safe to use and that in the state of Florida, it was perfectly legal to carry Mace as a self defense weapon.
We did some research online and found out that New York residents may only purchase defense sprays including Mace or other brands of pepper spray/tear gas from licensed Firearms Dealers or licensed Pharmacists in that state. Massachusetts residents may only purchase defense sprays including Mace or other brands of pepper spray/tear gas from licensed Firearms Dealers in that State.
There are two other States that have certain restrictions. In Michigan, OC Pepper spray can be no stronger then a 2% concentrate (Different companies can sell different concentrations.) CS is the only Tear Gas accepted and can be no larger than 35 grams per can. No combination spray allowed. In Wisconsin, you can only carry Pepper Spray only. You are not allowed anything with Tear gas, UV Dye or combination sprays. OC can be no stronger then a 10% solution. It must be between 15-60 grams only and must have a safety feature. When traveling on an airline, you won’t be able to carry Mace. These are the only restrictions that I found so far.
I convinced Darlene that even law enforcement officials use Mace as their own nonlethal weapon of choice. If it wasn’t safe to use, then the law enforcement officials would not have opted to use it.
Mace and Peppery Spray are used interchangeably and they are pretty much, the same thing. It is advised by the law that you learn how to use this product upon purchase to avoid accidents. It can be harmful only if it gets in the eye and the mouth, so it must be used responsibly.
The most that can happen if an accident does happen is a sensation of burning in the eyes and on the area affected. It may cause pain and if inhaled, the feeling of being suffocated. Law enforcement officials are trained to use this against criminals. It causes the same effect.
The information I researched proved to be very important in allowing Darlene to make the decision. After reading all this information, she finally decided to try it. She was assured that it was legal in the State that she lived and also that if used, responsibly, it can be a safe way to protect herself. I made sure that I had one before I recommended it to Darlene and so she had asked me before she made her purchase to see mine. I showed it to her, but told her that if I did not have one, she could have gone on the Internet and found pictures of what it looked like.
She was impressed and gave me permission to go online and order it for her. I immediately made the purchase before she may have changed her mind. For more information, please go to http://www.laneselfdefense.com/mace-pepper-gun.htm

It was the early morning hours and Samantha was coming from the club that she had enjoyed with her two girlfriends, Sherri and Lana. They had all driven in different cars and parked elsewhere. As Samantha walked to her car, she stopped shortly as she remembered the ritual that she had to go through each time she would walk to her car. She stopped under the street lights and pulled her keys and stun gun from her small purse.
She scolded herself because this should have been done before she vacated the club building. She looked around and saw people going by, but minding their own business. She hoped no one saw her. She was a little tired, but knew that she had to stay alert for any possible attackers. She had learned in her self defense class how important it was to remain alert of one’s surroundings. There were a few other people walking to their car, but from a distance. She observed her surroundings, which was another self defense tactic. Her stun gun was also one of the effective self defense tools that could save lives.
She had heard stories about stalkers and bad men who took advantage of women who walked alone and she had made sure to do all she could to protect herself and it paid off so far. She had encouraged both Sherri and Lana to do the same. She mentally prepared herself to call to make sure that they had gotten home safely. She hadn’t gotten the opportunity to use her stun gun, but she vowed to use it if confronted by a stalker or an intruder.
What is the stun gun and how can it be effectively used by a woman?
Stun guns are self defense weapons that woman can use to protect themselves against crime. It is a hand-held device that releases a voltage on the intruder and produces shock waves. Stun guns are not gender specific. However, many manufacturers are seeing the need for specialized stun guns for women are they are becoming quite popular. This is because of the increasing number of attacks that women experience more than men do. Stun guns have become the self defense tool of choice for a lot of women including pepper spray as well.
How to use the Stun Gun
You would have to hold the electrodes very firmly on the person who is attacking you and place it on an area such as the upper shoulder and then you release it. Continue to apply pressure for several seconds until the intruder is down and helpless.
Is the Stun gun safe to use?
A stun gun is not harmful in any way because all it does is to shock the attacker and won’t cause any permanent damage. Your goal is to render the attacker helpless. The effect from a stun gun is to the area that is affected and it doesn’t pass through the body to harm any organs. It cannot kill anyone.
Is a stun gun legal to use?
Stun guns may be restricted in some areas, but for the most part, it is legal in most areas. You have to check your local area to find out before you purchase the stun gun.
Samantha got home safely and made the phone call to Lana and Sherri and found out that they had arrived home safely too. It felt safe to have a stun gun for self defense and she vowed to recommend it to most of her friends and anyone she met.

Alarms are not the only way that you can protect your home. There are so many electronic security devices to choose from these days and one of them is the electronic dog bark security system. Of course alarms will work such as the security door alarm, and the security window alarm.
There are many security devices that are quite cheap and simple to install in your house. It has the ability to prevent burglars and helps you to have peace of mind.
When you install your alarm or electronic security bark dog, you must find a secure place in your home to put it so that it is not easily visible and it is able to work more efficiently.
The most important factor of keeping your home safe is to secure all the points of entry. This generally means that all the doors need to be solid and secured with strong hinges and locks. Locks must be resistant enough to avoid tampering. You should also consider having an extra deadbolt that you can put in the doors at night and make sure it is made from strong metal.
Additionally, you should make sure that all windows are secure and that the glass is made of strong material, possibly tough glass that is hard to break and be broken into. Be sure to have a lock for the window for extra security.
If your home has a garden outside, be sure that you have security lights installed. Burglars usually enter the home from the back more than the front of the house.
You should have high fences and other security measures that will prevent burglars from climbing over the fences. This may include fence hedges or spikes.
Consider getting a home security dog, which may be in the form of a real dog or an electronic security bark dog. The security system that is becoming very popular is the bark of an electronic dog. When the intruder comes close to the house, the electronic system barks like a dog and scares the burglar away. The burglar thinks that this is a real dog and if you add a “beware of dog,” sign, it adds to their fear.
There are many intruders who really don’t like dogs or want to mess with your dog. This is one of the most effective ways to keep these intruders out of your home. Having a regular dog is good, but did you know that burglars have ways to intimidate your dog and hurt them so that they can enter your home?
German shepherds are good home security dogs than any other dogs because of their large size and strength. They also have good instincts and are good guard dogs. However, an electronic home security dog is a better alternative and a very helpful option to ensure that the home is safe and secure. You don’t have to deal with veterinarian bills or maintaining your dog. The electronic bark dog is economical and easy to deal with.

I am sure you have heard a lot about crime on college campuses that are getting quite prevalent. Gone are the days when school was safe. Even the elementary and high school public systems are included in this barrage of crimes taking place in the American society.
College campuses are experiencing rapes, which usually tend to be rapes committed by an acquaintance. A woman should always protect herself against such crimes, but most women don’t because they trust the individual that they are dating. Avoid going out alone. Go out in group dates, if possible. A woman should also equip herself with self defense tools such as a mace pepper spray gun or the triple action mace for added protection.
The Triple Action Mace will give the female college ed three times the protection. It contains a combination of OC Pepper, CN Tear Gas and a light seasoning of UV Marking Dye. The mace pepper spray gun sprays like an aerosol continually from any angle, even when it is held upside down. A woman can spray 7 blasts up to 25 feet.
College female students should be very careful to get to know their male companions well and try to stay in group situations as much as possible. Avoid areas that are deserted or deserted parking lots. Avoid drinking too much so that you can keep a clear head. The Journal of Studies done on alcohol consumption indicates that more than 70,000 students are victims of alcohol related date rapes and this is a startling statics that proves how important it is for students to take safety precautions.
Let someone know that you are going on a date, with whom, where and what time you plan to get back to your dorm. When walking around college campus after hours, walk in groups, in a well-lit area and in well-patrolled areas. Never walk alone if you don’t have to and make sure that you or your other college companions have the proper self defense devices to give you added security.
Select one or more self defense tools such as pepper sprays, stun guns, or personal alarms. Be sure that you know how to use these tools and commit yourself to using them if you encounter a dangerous situation. You will enjoy more peace of mind if you own one or more of these devices. Recommend it to your college roommates and friends so that they too, can be fully equipped in lieu of any danger.
Always have your car keys handy when walking to your vehicle. In your dorms, make sure no one else has your keys and be careful who you let into your dorm. If a key is stolen, be sure to report it immediately and have the locks changed right away.
You may even want to take drastic safety measures by applying the Cyber Eye digital surveillance camera to be able to track things going on around you. You may not be able to use this in your dorm, but you can mount it in your car, if you own a vehicle. The Cyber Eye digital is able to detect the presence of an intruder, and then spring into action. It records the image of the intruder and saves it to memory, so you can recover it whenever you want.
Be sure to report any suspicious activity happening around your dorm to police on campus or to the local police department, if you don’t live on campus. For more information on self defense products, visit:

Helen, GA — A 300-pound black bear raided a family’s campsite, and the father saved his sons from harm by throwing a log at the beast, killing it with a single blow.
Chris Everhart and his three sons were camping in the Chattahoochee National Forest in northern Georgia when the encounter happened on Saturday. The bear took the family’s cooler and was heading back to the woods when the youngest son, 6-year-old Logan, hurled a shovel at the bear.
The bear then dropped the cooler and started coming at the boy, said his father. Fearing what might happen next, Everhart, an ex-Marine, grabbed the closest thing he could find - a log from their stash of firewood.
“I threw it at it and it happened to hit the bear in the head,” Everhart said. “I thought it just knocked it out but it actually ended up killing the bear.”
Everhart was given a ticket for failing to secure his camp site by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
This attack last weekend happened the same weekend that an 11-year-old boy was killed by a black bear while camping in a forest in Utah. Sam Ives was found mauled to death after he was pulled screaming from his tent in the Uinta National Forest, about 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.

Watching out for your children’s safety is A LOT OF WORK. I know because I’m the proud father of our 15-month-old son Jacob. We live in Minnesota (the land of 10,000 lakes) and even though we don’t own a pool, I still worry about Jacob’s safety around water.
My co-worker has a pool in his yard (he bought the house when he was a bachelor) and even though he is recently married, he doesn’t yet have any kids. I remember him telling me before, when we were talking about real estate, how having a pool in his yard is actually a BIG TURNOFF to potential home buyers with kids because of the potential safety issues.
Just recently, I became of a new child safe pool device that is on the market that I thought was pretty interesting, and yet still affordable, for the average homeowner. Here is a link to where you can buy this product from my company: http://www.laneselfdefense.com/poolalarm.htm
More than 900 children between 1 and 14 die each year in drowning accidents. In California, drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for children 1-4 years of age.
But, do you really need these statistics to convince you to do everything
you can to prevent this from happening to your child or grandchild?
The Pool Alarm is an electronic monitoring system that automatically sounds an alarm when children or pets fall into your unsupervised pool. It’s portable, self-contained and light weight. The unit is simple to operate. Entry into the pool will be detected by the Pool Alarm’s electronic sensor, triggering a loud pulsating alarm at the unit and inside your house from the remote receiver.
The Pool Alarm installation is very easy. It sits on the pool deck. Imagine an L-shaped device that sits on the pool deck with an arm extending down into the water to monitor the water level. The Pool Alarm is activated by a simple displacement of water principle. You can see a picture of the device in action here: http://www.laneselfdefense.com/Images/poolalarm.jpg
After you install the POOL ALARM, it can’t be de-activated; it is always in the alarm ready mode until you put it in Sleep Mode.
If someone who does not know how to put the POOL ALARM in sleep mode attempts to remove the alarm, it will sound an alarm.
The Pool Alarm comes with a remote receiver which can be mounted in your home up to 200 feet from the main unit. It comes with a 12 volt power supply.
The Pool Alarm uses one a 9-volt battery (not included) which should last approximately one year.
There is a audible low battery indicator which will sound at the poolside alarm and the remote receiver.
To me, this seems like a pretty affordable way to buy a pool owner with children, some PIECE OF MIND…
What do YOU think?

A recent article that appeared in the Chicago Tribune on Sunday, June 3, 2007 discussed the magnitude of Chicago’s security challenge, and what it might cost, should Chicago win the right to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
An estimated 10,500 Olympic athletes would come to Chicago to compete and all of the vulnerable locations in the city would need to be fortified - from the lakefront and parks to transportation systems and hotels. The article points out that the city would likely resemble a closely watched fishbowl, with surveillance in the air, on and under the water, and in and around sporting venues, celebratory sites, tourist havens, roadways and rail lines. Mobile surveillance systems and mobile crisis management centers should be expected as well.
Heightened measures at the airports, train stations and bus depots, including use of face-recognition technology, which compares images of arriving passengers with vast databases of known troublemakers should be expected. Some roadways likely will be dedicated to credentialed Olympics-related vehicles only. It will take 30,000 to 40,000 personnel to secure the Olympics, and they will need specialized training, depending on their tasks. Also, workers in venue construction and maintenance, in hotels and in other tourist destinations will need security training.
If Chicago gets the nod on October 2, 2009, when the Olympic Selection Committee is expected to make their final determination of venue choice, it immediately becomes a target. The U.S. will have to link up with allies worldwide to ramp up intelligence-gathering.
At the Olympic village and venues, expect sharpshooters to be positioned at observation points, airportlike security for those entering and exiting, and sensors to pick up any chemical, biological or radiological threat. Controlled traffic and parking zones can be expected, with access limited to credentialed vehicles. Security personnel will likely be checking each spectator walking into a venue by routing them through the walk-through metal detectors now common at airports as well as random checks of individuals with a more thorough scan by a Garrett hand-held metal detector.
Declining prices for surveillance cameras and other gear as well as improved software will provide public safety officials with tools in 2016 that we can only speculate about today. One thing seems for certain however - surveillance cameras, multi-channel surveillance systems, hidden cameras, sophisticated audio-visual listening and recording devices - even Cyber-eye digital surveillance cameras - will be used very liberally to protect the city, Olympic Athletes, and spectators from potential security threats. And for good reason - surveillance cameras and surveillance systems work very well in deterring criminal activity and apprehending those responsible in the unlikely event that an attack actually occurs.

Joann Jungmann thought she was a goner. Two pit bulls were mauling her with such strong jaws than one of the dog’s teeth tore through her jean jacket, striking bone. With the help of some bystanders, Jungmann survived Monday’s ordeal in St. Paul - only one in a recent spate of dog attacks in the Twin Cities.
An estimated 334,000 people show up at hospital emergency rooms each year with dog bites, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 12 people die annually, according to the CDC. The largest government study found that pit bulls accounted for roughly one-third of the deaths from 1981 to 1992.
Some cities actually go as far as to ban pit bulls or dogs classified as dangerous. Other places, including many cities in Minnesota, label dogs involved in attacks as dangerous and track them. St. Paul is even looking into going so far as taking away a person’s right to own a dog if the animal has been trained to fight or be aggressive.
One of the problems is that at least 25 different breeds of dogs have been involved in fatal attacks.
“If you target a specific breed, it’s akin to racial profiling. There’s just no basis for that,” said Lisa Peterson, spokesman for the American Kennel Club. She added that “pit bull” is a catchall term for crosses of three different breeds of terrier dogs.

How to safeguard against rape, assault
This week’s crime prevention message is about self defense against date rape and acquaintance sexual assault. This is part 1 of a 2-part series.
Date Rape Statistics
Dating can be a dangerous sport! In an October 2002 statistics study at the University of Tennessee, 25% of college women surveyed are victims of rape or attempted rape. 84% of the women assaulted, were raped by an acquaintance and 57% were considered date rape.
Between 10-14% of rapes are between a husband and wife (also called “marital rape”). In many cases, alcohol or drugs has been used by either the assailant or the victim.
Surprisingly, 10 percent of rape victims were male.
Rape, Aggression and Violence Against Women
In the USA, there is a rape every six minutes. A woman is beaten every 18 seconds; 3 to 4 million are battered every year. Three out of four women will be victims of at least one violent crime during their lifetime!
When and Where do Rapes and Assaults Happen
Perhaps you think sexual assault happens only in certain high-risk situations such as hitchhiking, walking alone at night or sparse home invasions. When you are wearing casual clothing, or dresses, skirts and high healed shoes, there is no clothing that you can wear to keep them away. Sexual assaults also take place in normal, seemingly safe places. In fact, about one-third of all rapes occur in or near the victim’s residence. About one-half of rapes are by first or casual dates. Rape violence and rape self defense need to be an important subject of study for every woman!
See part two of next series to gain those important tips!
