Using Pepper Spray Correctly and Responsibly
Sunday, October 26th, 2008Pepper spray can be an excellent form of self defense; however it can also be extremely dangerous if it is not used correctly.
Even though it is not illegal within the United States of America, there are laws that you have to follow when it comes to the use of pepper spray. Here you will find out everything that you need to know about these laws as well as tips to use the spray correctly.
The Importance of Using Pepper Spray Correctly
In many situations using pepper spray can really help to protect you against an attacker. However if you do not use it correctly there is a possibility that you could be hit with a civil liability. This is because all assault is considered to be a criminal offense. If you punch somebody then you can often get charged with assault. The same goes for pepper spray, if you cannot prove that it was self defense then you could end up in serious trouble.
There are certain situations where you cannot use the spray and these include:
- When you just don’t like the look of someone
- When a person is annoying you
If you use pepper spray for your own personal reasons then it is against the law and again you will end up with criminal charges being pressed against you. You have to remember that the spray is incredibly powerful and in some extreme cases it can be potentially life threatening. So when you use it, it has to be because you are in serious danger and it has to be self defense.
Pepper Spray Laws in Different States
Different states have different laws regarding the purchase and use of pepper spray. In California if you misuse pepper spray you could end up with a fine of up to $1,000. You could even have to serve three years in prison so it is fairly serious if you do misuse the spray. When it comes to purchasing the spray you also have to ensure that there is a warning label on the product that tells you it is against the law to misuse it.
You also have to be aware that there are some places which forbid you to even carry the product. These include onboard commercial aircrafts and in federal buildings. However if you place the pepper spray in your checked in luggage on an aircraft then that is usually ok. The fine that you could face if you ignore this rule is up to $25,000.
Overall you have to ensure that when you purchase pepper spray you get it from a licensed firearms or pharmacist within your local area. You will need to check the laws in your area just to check that you do not purchase a spray that is stronger than what is allowed. Pepper spray can be potentially lifesaving but it can also be dangerous if used incorrectly. Even when it is used correctly, there is no guarantee that you will escape your attacker. However it is a good form of self defense and in most states it isn’t illegal; you just have to follow the appropriate laws.

- Never Swim Alone
Swimming alone can be very dangerous, even if you are a very good swimmer. Most drowning incidents occur when someone is in a pool alone. Heart attacks and injuries can be devastating if they occur in the water and, with no one around to help, can lead to fatalities. Children should never be left alone in a pool for any reason.
- Pool Construction and Maintenance
To help prevent injuries, make sure you use non-slip materials on your deck. Water and slippery surfaces are an accident waiting to happen. You can also use non-slip materials on your diving board and ladders. Pool ladder steps should be 3 inches thick at a minimum. Steps that are too small can cause a misstep too easily. Also be sure to monitor your pool’s equipment to make sure that everything is clean and running properly. This would include the pump, filters and other equipment.
- Pool Use
Teaching your kids to swim as early as possible (generally by the age of 3) will help them be more independent in the water. Of course, small children should never be left alone for any reason, even if they have had swimming lessons. To lessen the chance of accidents, avoid pushing people into a pool, getting wild around the pool edge, and other activities that could result in injury. Never drink alcohol and then go for a swim. This is a deadly combination that can result in serious consequences.
- Taking Extra Precautions
It is highly recommended that your pool be surrounded by a high fence that can be locked when the pool is not in use. This prevents children from wandering into the pool area unattended. It can also deter unwanted guests from using your pool as a fun, but illegal activity.
Keep a flotation device in your pool area at all times. Unfortunately, accidents happen without warning, and it is best to have one around. When using a pool cover on an above ground pool, take the cover off completely when the pool is in use. A partially opened pool is a hazard.
Knowing basic CPR is a good idea for homeowners. Classes are readily available in many cities and towns around the U.S. Recertification should be done yearly.
A lot of the tips for staying safe around your pool are common sense. Regular maintenance of your pool equipment and adhering to the rules can mean the difference between a relaxing, fun time in the sun, or an unexpected trip to the emergency room. Do your best to stay safe this swimming season.
Train Hard And Kick Butt
Monday, December 3rd, 2007So many exercises, and so little time.
Have you lost count of how many exercise programs creative minds have made over the past few years? There’s always another infomercial showing the newest way to get stronger, healthier, and hotter. It’s always available with a credit card number and a simple phone call. And it’s always the best thing out there.
Until the next infomercial you see.
There really aren’t that many kinds of exercises. There are some that increase your range of motion, like stretching programs or yoga. There are some that improve your strength like weight lifting or calisthenics. And there are some that improve your cardio vascular endurance like running or aerobics.
Of course, that’s all a lie.
Your body isn’t some sort of Kabbalistic this not that kind of machine. If you get better at running, don’t you think that you might also get stronger with your running muscles? Maybe you’d become more flexible as far as your limbs go, so running becomes a more natural and efficient activity.
Not to mention more fun.
And, what’s more fun than kicking some butt when it comes down to you or them?

The Mace Hot Walkers are the ultimate in exercise programs and self defense tools. Everybody who’s anybody has heard about the exercise program where you walk and carry weights in your hands. These weights make your effort just a little more demanding than Granny making her rounds at the local mall. That’s because they weigh one pound a piece.
But, that’s not the important part.
They also hold Pepper Spray inside. For those of you who don’t know, Pepper Spray is the chemical equivalent of molten lava. Any bad guy that gets hit with a load of Pepper Spray is going to suffer what all the old churchmen used to describe as the torture of the damned.
While he’s enjoying this, he’s not going to be hassling you. Or, attacking you, or mugging you, or talking you, since he’ll be writhing around on the ground, praying not to die.
How can you beat better health for you and an eternity of suffering for your attackers?
Steve Lane
P.S. Okay, pepper spray is not eternal damnation for any fool who attacks you.

He should regain the use of his body just about the time he’s getting booked by the coppers.
